Birthday Shenanigans

As most of you know, I recently turned 21.
I came home to a bathtub full of balloons, a tiara, 21st bday beads and shot glasses with a happy birthday sign.

My birthday was on a Monday (not the best bar night.. but we made it work)
Sunday night I went to Y-bar with my friends. Jeri and Tim even showed up in their work clothes! Everyone was buying me birthday drinks/shots and these seem to be the ones that I can remember (I decided to google what was in them)

  • Dirty Girlscout- coffee liqueur, Irish cream liqueur, peppermint schnapps
  • Washington Apple- canadian whiskey, sour apple schnapps, cranberry juice
  • Tequila shot- Tequila (Thanks ALOT Megan...)
  • Three Wise Men- Johnnie Walker, Jim Beam , Jack Daniel's (not to be confused with "three wise men visit mexico" where Jose Cuervo is added)
  • white gummy bear- cherry vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, sprite
  • tootsie roll shot-vodka, coffee liqueur and orange juice

I had a good time at the bar, but had a rough Monday.

My best friends from Westland came to continue the celebration on Saturday. I was SO happy to see
them all! My mom sent an awesome cake for me too :)

They all brought me presents too :) (I can't believe we still get each other birthday presents) I'm glad though... because I loved them! Thanks guys! As you can see, I was very excited to open my gifts. The hoodie I'm wearing was from Jake!

Among the gifts was tickets to the Michael Jackson Immortal Tour-Cirque du Soleil. I'm so excited! I've never been to a cirque du soleil show :) I'm going on the 15th (after Carrie's baby shower, which I'm also excited about.)

We all went to the Library Taphouse on Saturday.

Me and Amy have been doing the School of Rock handshake since it came out. Nobody ever knows what we're talking about so I posted the video clip from the movie.

I had a great time and was SO happy that they had a dance floor. There were even some ex-k10 employees there :) it was great seeing them.  I was a little too excited to dance, because I fell while I was out on the dance floor. Don't worry,, my face caught my fall. FYI, face injuries bleed a lot! The manager got me some ice and a washcloth so it didn't swell up that bad. When we got back to the apartment Jake goes "I'm an eagle scout! I've been waiting for something like this to happen!" (at least someone was excited haha) He got my first aid kit out and fixed me up.

(notice the band aid?)

I went to the Red Wings game with Kelly, Jessica and Mikey on Sunday. Before the game we stopped at the Post bar. There were signatures all over and business cards pinned up too. Kelly made the bartender put my business card up on the ceiling and I signed my name on a game in the bar. After the game, my friend Garrett who was visiting from Tennessee showed up at the Post with his friend Steve and I made them sign their names there too. We all had a great time at the game and it didn't hurt that we got the tickets for free and we won! (Thanks again Jenny)

Sorry it took me so long to post this. I didn't feel like uploading pictures until now :)

Study Break!

So I've been studying for a map test in my Modern Middle East class...

FYI middle eastern coutries and cities are VERY hard to spell/memorize (so I'm taking a break to blog).

I've always been an awful test taker and have a hard time memorizing things. The only way I seem to have any success is if I use mnemonic devices. Here's some examples of how I've been remembering countries/cities:

I remember the city Muscat because Muscat is part of Nathan's old screen name.

yeMEN and oMAN are next to eachother on the map... so I have to remember that it is the manly section of the map. (and this one is actually one of the better ones!)

I'm screwed.

If you have been to Kalamazoo 10 lately, you may have seen that our screens don't allow the whole title's of every movie to fit... here's one that customers keep pointing out to me. "Rise of the P" .... sounds a little dirty haha

This has happened before, one of my favorites was "Little Red Riding Ho"

haha never a dull moment there :)

That's what's up.

Sorry to the 3 people who read my blog that it's been so long since my last post :)

A lot has changed since my last post. Amy is no longer living with me and Ari is back for the school year. We moved into a new apartment that is HUGE! Here's a few pictures to show you.

Amy has already come to visit me here. She came out for Western's welcome week along with our friend Christine. I'm glad I had a chance to see them even though it wasn't for very long.

I'm back in school and actually enjoying it (at least for now). I like all of my teachers but some of the classes are a little long. I have 22 credits to go after this semester, so I'll be graduating this summer. How exciting!

Last week I went tailgating for the first time at Western. It was so much fun! I went with jake and his cousins and some friends. It ended up raining but we still had a good time. I'm really bad at playing bags. I managed to throw all of the bags on the hole and NONE of them fell in. who does that?? Jake grilled up some hot dogs and brats and they were fantastic.

Yesterday was the Central Vs. Western football game. They are our rival team and every year it's a huge deal. We've lost the past few years but we didn't let that discourage us! We won 44-14 go broncos! We never actually made it to tailgating, but our apartment complex was filled with people wearing Western or Central attire so we cheered them on from our apartment. Some friends came out to visit and we all had a blast.

Today is my day off so I'm catching up on readings and homework. I'm really tempted to take a break and go watch Lion King in 3D though :) we'll see.

My Roommate Amy

As most of you know, Amy has been living with me for the past couple of weeks. I thought we would end up hating each other by now. Surprisingly, we're getting along better than ever.

I've managed to get her hooked on the show Dexter. We're currently waiting for Jake to get out of his movie so we can all watch season 3. We've been looking forward to watching it all night so we've been forced to keep ourselves occupied with other things.

First, I tried to talk her in to letting me paint her face. She agreed to a small portion of her arm.
Then, she wanted to paint mine. I promised not to look at it until it was done. I thought she was painting a sleeve of motorcycle tattoos or something. I was wrong.
It was fun, that's what counts.

Jake's here! time for some Dexter :)

No Scrubs

Over Memorial Day weekend, I went up north to Betsy's cottage. From day one I told them that I wanted to make a music video in our down time. On our drive up north, the song "No Scrubs" by TLC came on. We all started singing it and knew the words. I decided THAT was the song we should lip sync to. Unfortunately, we flipped our canoe with my camera in it. The camera went underwater and got ruined. It wouldn't even turn on. I wasn't able to film anything for the music video after that and it really bummed me out.

I had some time to kill today and thought it would be funny to see what I could make with the video clips I was able to get during our trip before the canoe incident.( Sorry Matt, you managed to stay out of every video on my camera. )

p.s. my camera magically started working about a week after I got back from the trip. :)

Productive Day Off

I've been spending most of my time at work, so I was excited to have a day off. I woke up around 10 and decided I would sleep for a little while longer. The next time I woke up, it was 3 in the afternoon! Although I was shocked that I slept in so late, the long sleep felt amazing.

I spent the day running errands.

  • I returned a library book
  • paid my rent
  • bought some hair dye
  • went to Big Apple Bagels
  • went to Goodwill
  • went to Plato's closet
  • went to Jimmy Johns
  • dyed Kelly's hair.

My friend Kristen told me about a promotion that was going on at Big Apple Bagels currently. The location near my work is giving away free coffee to anyone named KIM! (or Gary). I've never been there before but I felt obligated to try it. I ended up getting a bagel & cream cheese too. They have so many different kinds of cream cheese I'm going to have to go back and try them all! It was delicious and so was the coffee.

I went to Plato's Closet and there ended up being a huge clearance sale there. I guess it was just my lucky day. I ended up getting 4 shirts and a swim cover-up. I didn't notice that they were 50% off until I got to the counter. I spent less than 15 dollars. WHAT a bargain!

For those of you who didn't know, Jimmy John's was having a customer appreciation day today. They were giving out subs for only one dollar! I forgot about it until my way home from the store. I picked up Jake and headed over to Jimmy Johns. I guess my luck ran out by this point because when we got there, the subs were back to regular price. The dollar subs were only going on until 3:00. Bummer... I still ended up getting a sub and it was worth the extra few bucks.

I promised Kelly I would dye her hair today, so I picked up some hairdye for myself too. My highlights are growing out so I decided to go back to all one color. After I was done with Kelly's highlights, there was some bleach left over so I bleached a little part of my hair to try to look like those feather extensions. I tried to put it in Kelly's hair too, but it was hard to see. It's not very noticeable, but it was a fun time. Here's my new racoon tail highlight and hair color

My Free Caricature

The apartment complex that I live at was hosting a party with free food, mechanical bull, jousting, and caricatures. I went down and got some pizza with Megan. We waited in line to get our caricature done too. I gave the biggest smile for about 5 minutes straight ( a little unnecessary). The picture turned out pretty funny. It's definitely going on the fridge!

I skyped with Amy after and she kept telling me she wanted to go get ready for the Poison concert. I kept doing things to stall her and she didn't even notice. I even told her to stay still so I could draw a caricature of her. I think she thought I was taking it seriously,, but of course I was just trying to get her to stay on skype longer. here's a picture of my lovely drawing (notice how long I was able to keep her on skype)

My mom wants me to blog more...

So here is a little update on my life:

I recently got promoted to MIT at work. So far training has been great. I actually look forward to going to work in the Summer since I don't have class or anything else to occupy my time, so I'm glad to be doing something new there to keep it interesting.

This past week I was sporting some awesome strawberry nails and Ninja Turtle toenails. The turtles are still staying strong, but the nail polish on my hands chipped while I was at work. Here's a visual.

Jake and I took a trip to Cadilac (where his family lives) and I got to meet his doggy Nina. She was such a sweetie. Jake's dad took us to Messick, which is the morel mushroom capital. He also made an awesome lunch for us. We went up to the YMCA while we were there and went swimming. I can't dive off of a diving board at all now! I just belly smack. Here's a picture of Nina. (.. and I thought Lucy was big!)

Yesterday Megan and I went to Mainstreet Pub for dinner. Kelly met us there. We ordered too much food! Our total bill was about 35 bucks (which is a lot of food there). Luckily we had a coupon. Dayna ended up being our waitress which was awesome. I haven't seen her in a while. They had a fundraiser going on for Kalamazoo Heroes. We each donated a dollar to get our name up on the wall. Here's our donation names that we decided to write.

My friend from work got me started on this show called Dexter. I think I'm hooked. I've only watched about 5 episodes, but they've all been pretty good. I'd recomend it.

Also, I went out to my mailbox today and found a letter from Chelsea Kirchoff. I was so excited. I love getting mail! She sent me an awesome temporary tattoo that says "yer mom" can't wait to wear that one! Thanks Chelsea!

and thanks to you for reading! I'm off to work.

Should Have Named him Sleeping Beauty

Now that my internet is up and running again, I can actually post pictures.
I was going though some of my pictures in my phone and saw some pictures of my fish that lives in Westland.

I used to have a blue betta fish named Snowflake back in high school that I LOVED! I could clean his fish bowl and scoop her up in my hand and she didn't even flop around. He ended up living really long too. Unfortunately... when he died I got a replacement betta. (I should have known that no fish could replace my Snowflake)  I got this fish before I left for college, and I decided to leave it in Westland with my parents. The past couple of times I went home, he was sleeping! Not just floating around slowly, full on resting on the bottom. From what my parents tell me, he does it every day. I decided to take pictures the last time I visited home.

RIDICULOUS!

Movies Movies Movies

I haven't been in the mood to blog lately. Mostly because my internet is ridiculously slow at my apartment and I have this feeling that I'll type up a big long entry and BAM! "You are not connected to the internet" will pop up on my screen, so I'll keep it short.

Since Summer started, I've been trying to use my free movie pass every week. Who am I kidding? I was doing that well before Summer break.

Bridesmaids was hilarious, I saw it twice! The humor in it reminded me of the Hangover.

I just watched Hangover 2 which I thought was pretty funny too. I've heard mixed reviews from customers/employees at K10 about their feelings towards the Hangover 2. The complaint that I've heard the most is that it was too similar to the first one, but that's what I loved about it! It was like they extended the original.

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean and thought Johnny Depp was pretty funny, but I've never seen any of the other ones so I wasn't that impressed.

I watched Something Borrowed not too long ago and hated it. That was by far my least favorite of my recently watched movies. I laughed at a few parts, but the whole moral of the story was awful in my opinion.

Today I watched Kung Fu Panda and it was surprisingly really good. I usually love watching animated movies, but I'm always a little skeptical. It was funny to see mostly college kids in the theater and still have the whole audience laughing.

X-Men comes out this week, I'm sure I'll end up seeing that too!

(I just tried adding pictures to this, but of course my internet isn't too fond of that idea)

School's out for the Summer!

(I Love this song!)

Yesterday was my last day of school. I'm so relieved to be done! I feel pretty good about this semester.

I had a GREAT last day of school. I started my day off with a final exam that only took me about a half hour to finish. After I finished my final, Jake and I went to go see Source Code. It was such a good movie. I recommend seeing it. It made me tear up at a few parts.

After the movie, we met up with some of Jake's family to go rock climbing. We went to Climb Kalamazoo which was way bigger than I was expecting. I've climbed a few rock walls back when I was younger but they have always been hooked up to a rope that automatically catches you. This time I learned how to belay and how to tie a figure 8 knot. We also got special rock climbing shoes that were extremely small but ended up being a big help once we started climbing.

Thanks to Jake's cousin Shannon, I got some pictures of the fun. (sorry about all of dust in the pictures)

I had a blast! I was surprised that I could even make it to the top. My muscles are pretty sore today, but it was worth it. I can't wait to go back.

Happy Birthday Dayna!
One of my dear friends Dayna Krushlin turned 21 recently and had her celebration last night. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad that Jessica, Jake, and my roommates were able to go. I was also happy to see Ron there. What a great way to end the school year.
